Spring Recap

In our recent
Spring Blog Post, we made a helpful guide to making the most of spring - including marking the official first day of spring with the Spring Equinox. Now that spring is here, we hope you haven’t been too busy with your spring cleaning and weeding to have a little springtime fun too, especially now that Earth Day is here!

We’ve been busy at CrunchLabs, and have some news just for you! For the first time ever this month, we unveiled our top-secret, super duper exciting new STEM subscription box called Hack Pack. We’ve poured our hearts into getting this ready for you!

As eager as you probably are to build robots and become master hackers, just a quick reminder: we couldn’t do CrunchLabs without Earth and we're so excited to celebrate the 54th official Earth Day!

Earth Day, observed annually on April 22nd in the US, serves as a reminder of our shared responsibility to take care of our home planet. It's a day dedicated to raising awareness about environmental issues and calling for positive change.

This year’s theme is Planet Vs. Plastics, and highlights the urgent need to combat plastic pollution and promote sustainable practices. This year, the campaign is asking for a 60 percent reduction in plastics by 2040! At CrunchLabs, we're doing our part to advance Earth Day's goals, from eliminating single-use plastics in our packaging to leveraging innovative technologies in our builds.

Earth day + Robotics: Coding for a Greener Future!

With the recent launch of our Hack Pack, we have robotics and coding on the brain! With all the technology we have today, we can create new machines that don’t use plastics, and use coding to make things digital rather than generating more single-use products that end up in the trash, or polluting the ocean.

Go ahead, get lost in a daydream for a moment– imagine your perfect environmentally friendly robot.

  • What if there was a robot that turns plastic into gold?

  • Could an algorithm reduce contamination to improve composting?

  • Can we automate sorting trash from recycling?

All it takes is a good, creative idea and a little help to implement it to change the world around you.

#TeamSeas saw a problem – an estimated 11 million tons of plastic entering the ocean every year. So Mark Rober and MrBeast teamed up to dream up a solution.

Spotlight on #TeamSeas: Navigating Towards a Cleaner Future

Spotlight on #TeamSeas: Navigating Towards a Cleaner Future

The Team Seas logo. It is a blue wave in a circle on top of the words '#team seas'

#TeamSeas is an all hands on deck campaign to raise 30 million dollars to remove 30 million pounds of plastic and trash from our ocean, rivers and beaches. For every 1 dollar donated, 1 pound of trash gets removed from the ocean. MrBeast and #TeamSeas removed 60 thousand pounds of trash by hand “the old fashioned way” from the World’s Dirtiest Beach (check out his YouTube video on it here!).

Mark Rober and a floating, 50 ton trash eating robot called Interceptor 004 removed trash all day and all night and then all day again – because that’s what robots do, as Mark says. The Ocean Clean Up is the largest ocean cleanup in history, and Interceptor 004 is deployed to remove trash from the ocean and rivers that feed the ocean. Watch their effort in Mark's Youtube video about it!

By leveraging platforms like YouTube, #TeamSeas is not only removing car fenders, seat cushions, a bajillion plastic bottles, and a couple tons of trash out of the ocean, they’re also raising global awareness of this pressing issue. You can learn more and donate at teamseas.org

As we reflect on the significance of Earth Day and the remarkable efforts of organizations like #TeamSeas, let's recommit ourselves to building a more sustainable world. Together, we can harness the power of technology to create positive change and protect our precious planet.
